Your brakes are the most important safety system on your vehicle — and European vehicles have some of the most sophisticated brake systems on the road. From the electronic parking brakes and brake-by-wire systems on modern BMWs and Mercedes to the Brembo calipers on Porsche and Maserati, these systems require specialized knowledge and equipment. At Tony's Foreign Cars, our ASE-certified technicians have decades of experience with European brake systems. We use OEM or premium aftermarket pads and rotors, follow factory torque and bedding procedures, and properly service the electronic parking brake systems that many shops struggle with.

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions our customers ask most
Q.How long do brake pads last on a European vehicle?
A.Front brake pads typically last 30,000-50,000 miles on European vehicles, rear pads 50,000-70,000 miles. However, aggressive driving, city traffic, and heavier vehicles (SUVs) wear pads faster. We measure pad thickness at every service and advise you when pads reach 4mm (about 20% remaining) so you can plan ahead.
Q.Why does my brake fluid need to be changed every 2 years?
A.Brake fluid is hygroscopic — it absorbs moisture from the air over time. This lowers the boiling point (causing brake fade under hard use) and causes internal corrosion in expensive ABS modules and calipers. European vehicles with sophisticated ABS and electronic brake systems are especially sensitive. Brake fluid flush is the cheapest insurance against a multi-thousand-dollar ABS failure.
Q.Why does my steering wheel shake when I brake?
A.Steering wheel shake under braking is almost always warped front rotors — caused by heat, hard braking, or uneven pad transfer. We can often resurface rotors if they're thick enough, but replacement is sometimes needed. We also check for stuck calipers and pad buildup that can contribute to the pulsation.
Q.Can you service the electronic parking brake (EPB) on my BMW/Mercedes/Audi?
A.Yes. Modern European vehicles use electronic parking brakes that require the brake system to be put into service mode (retracted) before pad replacement, then retracted and reset afterward. We have the factory diagnostic equipment to perform this properly. Many shops without this equipment can't service EPB systems correctly.
Q.Do you offer performance brake upgrades?
A.Yes. We install Brembo, StopTech, and OEM performance brake packages for BMW M, Mercedes-AMG, Porsche, and other performance European vehicles. We also offer upgraded pads and rotors for spirited drivers — track pads, slotted rotors, and stainless steel lines. We bed in performance pads properly for optimal performance.
Q.My ABS light is on — is it safe to drive?
A.Your basic brakes will still work, but ABS (anti-lock braking) and often stability control are disabled. This means you can lock up the wheels under hard braking, which is dangerous in an emergency stop. We recommend having ABS faults diagnosed promptly. Common causes are wheel speed sensors, ABS module faults, or tone ring damage — we diagnose and repair the actual cause.
