European vehicles are packed with electronics — a modern BMW has 50+ control modules communicating across multiple CAN bus networks, and a Mercedes has SAM modules managing body functions that can fail and cause mysterious electrical gremlins. Electrical diagnosis requires specialized equipment and expertise that most shops simply don't have. At Tony's Foreign Cars, we invest in factory-grade diagnostic equipment and our ASE-certified technicians are trained in CAN bus communication, module coding, and electrical troubleshooting. We find the actual fault rather than throwing parts at the problem.

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions our customers ask most
Q.Why does my BMW need battery registration?
A.Modern BMWs (and other European vehicles) have intelligent charging systems that adjust alternator output based on battery age and type. When you replace the battery, the engine computer needs to be told the new battery's specs (capacity, type) so it charges correctly. Without registration, the new battery will be over- or under-charged and fail prematurely. We perform registration with factory equipment after every battery replacement.
Q.My car has random electrical gremlins — can you find the cause?
A.Random electrical issues are often caused by CAN bus communication faults, failing modules, or poor ground connections. We perform systematic network diagnostics — checking module communication, testing power and ground at each module, and isolating the fault. Common culprits are water intrusion in module locations, corroded ground points, and failing gateway modules.
Q.My infotainment screen keeps rebooting — can you fix it?
A.Infotainment reboots are common on BMW iDrive, Mercedes COMAND, Audi MMI, and Porsche PCM. Causes include failing control units, software bugs, failing hard drives (older systems), or power supply issues. We diagnose the specific cause, update software, and repair or replace the faulty component. On older BMWs with CCC/CIC systems, we offer the MCU2 upgrade.
Q.My battery keeps dying after the car sits — what's wrong?
A.Parasitic battery draw is a common European vehicle issue — a module that won't go to sleep keeps drawing current. We perform systematic current draw testing, pulling fuses to isolate the circuit, then dig into that circuit to find the offending module. Common culprits are keyless entry, infotainment, telematics, and faulty relays. We fix the actual problem rather than installing a bigger battery or a trickle charger.
Q.Do you do module coding and programming?
A.Yes. We have factory-grade equipment (ISTA, XENTRY, VCDS, PIWIS-equivalent) to program new modules, code retrofits, update software, and perform adaptations. This is specialized work that most independent shops can't do — they have to send vehicles to the dealer. We can code replacement modules, retrofit factory equipment, and update firmware on most European vehicles.
Q.Can you fix the CUE touchscreen delamination on my Cadillac?
A.Yes. The Cadillac CUE touchscreen delamination (bubbling, unresponsive) is a known issue on 2013-2016 models. We replace the screen with OEM or quality refurbished units. There was a class-action settlement — ask us about your options. We also service similar touchscreen issues on other makes.
